This photo is also not part of the series but another assignment where we worked on mixing natural lighting with artificial light; basically it was a mixed lighting assignment. I used the natural cloudy lighting with the warmness from the tungksten lighting accenting his face and body. I then edited the photo in photoshop. I hoped the photo would seem serene and a little calm as if he was basking in the early morning light while the world was still asleep.

I think this photo was successful.

Chrissie White!?

These photos are not part of the series but for another assignment which was to emulate Chrissie White's photography. Her photography used a lot of natural lighting in dark or shady areas. Other times they would be bright. These photos were particularly difficult to shoot because the lighting that day was harsh and I had some trouble adjusting the settings on the camera in accordance with the light while still trying to achieve the desired affect. I believe it was challenging to shooting images similar to Chrissie White that day because the lighting was so different.

I think these pictures are successful because the lighting is similar to Chrissie White's.

8. Another Day Another Dollar

Interestingly, this photo captures both the literal and metaphorical meaning of the quote. Someone is handing over to the young man a dollar which represents a person receiving another dollar for another day. However, the young man's expression, which is mostly bored and plain represents the plainness of everyday life and routines. The lighting is once again natural, but I added a sepia effect to lionize the boring quality of everyday routines. I believe this photo is not as entertaining, but has potential to be entertaining.

This photo is successful but I can make it better.

7. The Lesser of Two Evils

Obviously, the lesser--in this case the lessers--of two evils in this photo are the two girls donning the maroon jerseys. This photo was taken during SCPA's spirit week and I thought it would be clever to shoot this quote at the time, especially since the competition was between the Seniors and the Juniors. The girls in maroon are the Juniors and the girls in white are the Seniors. As you can also see, the girls are in the poses of lions about to pounce and fight signifying dangerous beasts that are evil but one is lesser (maroon) than the other (white). The lighting is natural with a slightly shallow depth of field.

I believe this photo is a successful installment in my series because it's literal and entertaining!

6. Don't Bite Off More Than You Can Chew

To emphasize "biting off more than you can chew" I asked the models to stuff as much food as possible into their mouths, to the point where the food begins to spill out but remains in their mouths. The models are also holding onto their desired food items to represent gluttony and their great insatiable hunger. I used a shallow depth of field and close up angle shots to put emphasis on their mouths and foods. The lighting is natural lighting since the location is in a cafeteria. The photo is humorous to me.

This image is successful but I could have made it better. Again, I am aiming to shoot the literal meanings of cliche quotes and sayings for entertainment purposes.

5. There's No I In Team

As the title suggests, this photo was created to illustrate a person who did not wish to participate or support her team. This is the reason why the girl wearing the black shirt was placed in the front while her team was placed in the back. The lighting was strobe but the effect used later was black and white to contrast the white and black shirts more. The shot appears friendly and happy and entertaining.

This image was slightly successful but I could have made it better and I plan to in the near future. My idea has not changed.

4. A Penny For Your Thoughts

I used a shallow depth of field so I could focus on the girl's outstretched hand, but more importantly on the single penny in the palm of her hand. This was to emphasize the idea of offering someone a penny, one cent, in exchange for an insight into their thoughts. The lighting was natural lighting from ceiling lights so the overall effect of the photo would also appear natural. In addition, I requested the girl to wear brown clothes in order to accentuate the color of the penny and the tone of the photo. This picture is more thoughtful or thought provoking rather than entertaining.

In terms of success, this photo was not as successful as I hoped it would be and it didn't really tie in with my series in terms of the purpose, which was to provide pure entertainment. During the process of creating this image, my idea began to become fuddled. Now I want to shoot the literal meanings of cliche quotes and sayings except with a humorous twist--providing entertainment--which was what I intended in the beginning. So in a sense, my idea changed and yet did not change at all. It just became complicated because I made it complicated. One word, simplicity. I plan to re-shoot this photo.

3. An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

The feel of this photo is meant to be casual and humorous thus her poses and facial expressions. To emphasize "keeping the doctor away" I intentionally didn't include a model for the role of a doctor. Her expressions are meant to show her enjoyment in not only eating the apple but also keeping the doctor away. I used strobe lighting for aesthetic appeal and used the rule of thirds for camera angle to make the shot interesting.

Again, this is another installment for my idea. My idea has not changed and I will continue shooting.

2. Keep Your Friends Close, But Your Enemies Closer

Following my idea of capturing the literal meanings of famous cliche quotes, I made these girls sit as close as possible but made the two girls sitting in the very front intertwine hands to emphasize "keeping your enemies closer." The girl to the left of the girl in the middle represents the friend while the girl to her right is the enemy. I used strobe lighting to make the shot more appealing especially since they are beautiful young women, and I used a camera angle level to the girls so I could capture all of their expressions. Again, this series is purely for entertainment and also to make viewers begin to think about all the quotes and what they would actually look like in real life, had the meaning been literal instead of metaphorical.

Yet another installment in my series and this photo I believe is especially strong and entertaining. My idea has not changed and I will continue to shoot famous cliche quotes.

1. I'm Falling For You

I wanted the girl in this picture to appear blurry as she jumped into the arms of the boy to emphasize movement. I used the location of the Grand Theater because the area provided elevation for the jump which would then support the idea of "falling." The lighting is natural lighting on a cloudless sunny day. The camera angle is shot upwards while I was slightly kneeling/sitting on the ground. This was to make the stairs appear higher and for the jump to appear higher.

This is just one of many popular quotes I will continue to shoot. My theme is to bring the most famous quotes to real life so viewers can see what the quote would actually look like had the quote been literal instead of metaphorical. This is commercial art in hopes of providing entertainment.
